NATURAL FIBER ABSORBENTS
Compare: Natural Fiber
(Cellulose) vs. Polypropylene
Liquids are absorbed
into the fibers (absorption) of cellulose. Liquids can only adhere
(adsorption) to the exterior surface of clay & poly.
Absorbed liquids
are retained and don't leach out of cellulose. Because polypropylene
is made from plastic it is unable to absorb liquids. It works instead
on the principle of adsorption. This principle can be demonstrated
easily by taking a plastic pen and dipping it into a cup of oil.
When the pen is pulled out, a certain amount of oil will cling to
the surface. The oil will then drip (leach) off the pen because
it was unable to get inside the fibers.
